Organic Vidanga Powder is valued for supporting comfortable, settled digestion and for kindling Agni, and it heads the classical Krimighna group in the Ayurvedic nighantus. The classical texts also name it Chitratandula, the speckled grain, for the finely mottled berries that are the part used, and Jantughna, one of the old group names under which Vidanga is listed. Ayurvedic Energetics: Rasa or taste is Katu and Kashaya, pungent and astringent; Virya or potency is Ushna, heating; Vipaka or post-digestive effect is Katu. Vidanga pacifies Vata and Kapha and may increase Pitta.
Ayurvedic Significance
Vidanga heads the Krimighna group in the classical nighantus, a category the tradition understood in terms of maintaining a wholesome inner terrain rather than any single action. Its qualities are Laghu, Ruksha and Tikshna, light, drying and penetrating, and with an Ushna Virya it is described as Deepana, kindling Jatharagni so that food is met by a ready fire. Practitioners have long valued it in the Purishavaha and Annavaha Srotas, where its drying quality is said to lift the damp heaviness Ayurveda associates with Ama and settled Kapha. Because it is Tikshna it is given in modest quantity.
Key Benefits
- Supports settled digestion: traditionally taken to encourage comfortable, unhurried digestion day to day.
- Kindles Agni: a Deepana dravya used to awaken the digestive fire and restore a natural sense of appetite.
- The classical Krimighna dravya: Vidanga heads this traditional group in the Ayurvedic nighantus and remains its best known member.
- Lightens Ama: the drying, penetrating quality is valued for easing the damp heaviness linked with accumulated Ama.
- Whole-herb purity: single-herb certified organic fruit powder with nothing added, so you set the quantity yourself.
