Chitrakadi Vati takes its name from Chitraka, the lead herb of the formula, joined to the suffix adi, meaning that which begins with. Vati simply means a small tablet. So the name reads as the Chitraka-headed tablet. Around Chitrakamoola the classical recipe gathers Pippali, Maricha, Shunthi, Chavya and Hingu with a set of traditional Ksharas and Lavanas, the whole bound with lemon juice. Each 350mg tablet carries this warming, appetising blend.

Ayurvedic Significance

This is a Deepana and Pachana formulation in the truest classical sense: Deepana to kindle Agni, Pachana to help the body digest what has already settled as Ama. Its Ushna virya and Katu rasa act directly on Annavaha Srotas, lifting the heaviness that marks Kapha accumulation in the stomach and steadying Samana Vata, which governs the movement of digestion. The Ksharas and Lavanas sharpen this action and support Amlapitta balance. Practitioners reach for Chitrakadi Vati when Mandagni, a slow digestive fire, is the underlying picture.

Key Benefits

  • Kindles Agni: A classical Deepana formulation traditionally used to strengthen a slow or uneven digestive fire.
  • Comfortable digestion: The warming spices settle the heaviness, fullness and gas that follow a hard-to-digest meal.
  • Clears Ama: Its Pachana action supports the body in breaking down and moving out accumulated Ama.
  • Healthy appetite: Traditionally used where natural hunger has dulled and meals no longer feel satisfying.
  • Vata and Kapha balance: The hot, light, penetrating qualities counter the cold and heavy nature of both doshas in the gut.

Ingredients

Each 350mg tablet contains: Chitrakamoola (Plumbago zeylanica), Root; Pippali (Piper longum), Fruit; Maricha (Piper nigrum), Fruit; Shunthi (Zingiber officinale), Rhizome; Chavya (Piper chaba), Stem; Hingu (Ferula narthex), Resin; Ajmoda (Trachyspermum roxburghianum), Fruit; Yavakshara; Swarjikshara; Saindhava Lavana; Audbhida Lavana; Krishna Lavana; Vida Lavana; Samudra Lavana; and Nimbu Swarasa (Citrus limon), Fruit Juice, used as Bhavana.

Formulated according to the traditional principles of Ayurveda.

All Prana Ayurveda herbs are sourced from select wild regions of India, where they naturally develop higher concentrations of active constituents.

Suggested Use

The traditional serving is two tablets twice daily, taken after food. Warm water is the classical Anupana and carries the warming action well; a little buttermilk suits those with a sensitive stomach. Midday and evening, following the main meals, are the preferred timings. Hingvashtak Churna makes a natural companion where Vata-type bloating dominates. For dosage and duration suited to your constitution (Prakriti), consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

Additional Information

You may see this formulation written as Chitrakadi Vati, Chitrakadi Vatika, Chitrakadi Gutika or Chitrakadi Gulika, and the first word spelled Chitrakadi or Chithrakadi. Vati, Vatika, Gutika and Gulika are simply different transliterations of the Sanskrit words for a rolled or compressed tablet. They all name the same classical preparation, so labels differing in spelling still hold the same formula.
