Sonth Churna by Maharishi Ayurveda is the pure powder of Shunthi, dry ginger, the herb the classics call Vishwabheshaja, “the universal remedy.” It is traditionally taken to kindle appetite and digestion, to ease gas, bloating and queasiness, to warm the chest through coughs and colds, and to comfort joints troubled by cold and damp. Sonth is dry ginger, the kitchen's oldest medicine.

Ayurvedic Significance

Drying transforms ginger. Hotter and lighter than the fresh root, Shunthi kindles Agni and digests Ama without aggravating Pitta the way raw pungents can. The classics reach for it across digestion, breath and joints, which is the reason for its “universal” title.

Traditional Uses and Benefits

  • Digestive kindling: traditionally taken to spark appetite and clean digestion.
  • Gas and queasiness relief: the classical settler of a windy, unsettled stomach.
  • Chest warmth: valued through coughs, colds and heavy seasons.
  • Joint comfort: classically warms joints troubled by cold and damp.
  • Ama clearing: digests residues before they dull the system.

These reflect traditional Ayurvedic uses and are not statements of medical effect.

Key Ingredients

  • Shunthi (Zingiber officinale): pure dry ginger rhizome, finely powdered.

Suggested Use

A common recommendation is 1 to 3 g, roughly a quarter to half a teaspoon, with warm water, honey or in cooking, once or twice daily, or as directed by a qualified practitioner.

Safety & Certifications

  • Warming herb: those with a hot constitution, acidity or bleeding tendencies should use small doses under guidance.
  • Quality standards: manufactured by Maharishi Ayurveda in GMP-certified facilities.
  • Medical care: persistent digestive trouble should be assessed by a doctor.
  • Pregnancy and lactation: culinary amounts are customary; larger doses only under practitioner guidance.
  • Storage: store in a cool, dry place with a dry spoon, tightly closed.
