Himasaagara Thailam is a classical Kerala oil for external use, built on the cooling juices of Shatavari, Vidari, ash gourd, Amalaki and tender coconut, drawn into sesame oil with milk and a fragrant paste of sandalwood, Tagara and Manjishtha.

Hima means snow or coolness and sagara means ocean, so the name reads as an ocean of coolness, which is exactly how the oil feels on the skin.

Ayurvedic Significance

This is a Sheeta or cooling Taila, made where Pitta and Vata are aggravated together and the body feels hot, tense and unsettled at once. The sweet, moistening juices carry a Brimhana quality that steadies Vata, while sandalwood, Manjishtha and the aromatic paste pacify the heat of Pitta in Rakta dhatu. Applied over the head it is a classical Shiro Abhyanga oil, settling Sadhaka Pitta and easing the mind toward rest.
