Pinda Taila is a classical cooling oil for hot, tired feet and legs. Pinda is the Sanskrit word for a rounded mass, and the name reflects the soft, semi-solid form the preparation takes when Madhucchista is worked into the sesame base. Manjishta and Sariva give it a distinctly cooling character, which is why it is the oil Ayurveda reaches for when Pitta has settled in the limbs.

Ayurvedic Significance

Classical Ayurveda describes Pitta as hot, sharp and liquid, and when it accumulates in the lower limbs the soles can feel as though they carry their own heat. Pinda Taila is a Pittahara preparation, built to meet that quality with Sheeta, cooling, herbs rather than warming ones. Manjishta and Sariva are the cooling pair the texts associate with the Rakta dhatu, and the sesame base carries them through the Srotas of the legs. It is classically applied as Padabhyanga, a slow foot massage before sleep.

Key Benefits

  • Cooling comfort for the soles: the traditional oil for feet that feel hot and restless at the end of a long day.
  • Tired legs eased: a slow massage over the calves and ankles after standing, walking or travel.
  • Pitta balance: Manjishta and Sariva bring the Sheeta, cooling quality that answers accumulated heat in the limbs.
  • Settled evenings: Padabhyanga with a cooling oil is a long-standing Ayurvedic way to wind down before sleep.
  • Softened, conditioned skin: the Certified Organic sesame base leaves dry heels and shins feeling smooth and supple.

Ingredients

Sesame seed oil (Sesamum indicum), Manjishta (Rubia cordifolia), Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Sarja (Vateria indica), Madhucchista.

100% Certified Organic Herbally Infused Oil. Carefully packaged in opaque, light-protective bottles to reduce light exposure and help preserve product quality. All certified organic Gopala Herbs are sourced from jungle farms in South India, located in the biodiverse Western Ghats where plants naturally develop higher concentrations of active constituents. Herbs are ethically harvested using traditional harvesting techniques at peak maturity, helping ensure maximum potency, nutrition and energetic integrity.

Suggested Use

Warm the oil to a comfortable temperature and massage it into the soles, calves and joints in slow circles for fifteen to twenty minutes, ideally before bed. Leave it on, then wash off with warm water. Consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for guidance.

Additional Information

This classical oil is written Pinda, Pindathailam, Pinda Tailam, Pinda Thailam or Pindataila in English sources. All are transliterations of a single Sanskrit name, so the spelling varies between houses while the traditional preparation remains the same.
