Nagarjuna Balaaswagandhaadi Thailam is a nourishing, restorative oil from the classical text Sahasrayogam, built around Bala and Ashwagandha in a sesame base. Its core purpose is to tone the nerves and muscles, calm the mind and steady aggravated Vata. The name joins Bala (Sida cordifolia), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and adi ("and others"), with Thailam meaning medicated oil.

Ayurvedic Significance

Bala and Ashwagandha are two of Ayurveda's finest Balya (strengthening) and Vata-pacifying herbs, and together in a Tila Taila base they make a deeply nourishing oil for Mamsa (muscle) and Majja (nervous) tissue. Balaaswagandhaadi helps balance Vata and Pitta, tone the soft tissues and support the natural flow of energy through the body. Used in Abhyanga, it is traditionally chosen to strengthen the muscles, steady the nerves and lend calm and clarity to the mind.

Key Benefits

  • Strengthens muscles and tissue: Bala and Ashwagandha tone the Mamsa Dhatu and connective tissue.
  • Nourishes the nerves: traditionally used to support and steady the nervous system.
  • Calms the mind: the nourishing base helps ease stress and support clarity.
  • Vata and Pitta balance: a soothing oil for both aggravated doshas.
  • Restorative Abhyanga: well suited to warm oil massage over the body.
