Phalatrikadi Ghan Vati presents the classical Phalatrikadi formulation as a concentrated Ghana (solidified water-decoction extract) tablet. The name comes from Phalatrika, a classical term for the three fruits of Triphala, with the suffix adi meaning "and others". It is a traditional bitter formulation long directed at the liver, the seat of Pitta.

Ayurvedic Significance

In Ayurveda, the liver (Yakrit) is the principal seat of Pitta, and heat, heaviness and sluggish metabolism are understood as aggravated Pitta disturbing the Rakta (blood) dhatu with accumulated Ama. Phalatrikadi is a classically Pitta-pacifying and cleansing formulation. The Triphala fruits are Tridoshic and gently cleansing, while Kutki, Chirayata, Neem, Guduchi and Vasa are cooling, bitter Pachana herbs that support the natural cooling and cleansing of the liver and the clearing of Ama and excess heat. It is regarded as Pitta-soothing and liver-supporting in nature.

Traditional Uses and Benefits

  • Liver support: Traditionally used to support the natural function of the liver, the seat of Pitta.
  • Pitta balance: Cooling, bitter herbs help settle the heat of aggravated Pitta.
  • Cleansing action: Supports the natural clearing of Ama and excess heat from the channels.
  • Digestive support: The bitter herbs support Agni and comfortable digestion.

These reflect traditional Ayurvedic uses and are not statements of medical effect.

Each tablet is a concentrated Ghana (water-extract) of:

  • Haritaki, Bibhitaki and Amalaki (the three fruits of Triphala)

Additional Information

This formulation is written in several ways, including Phalatrikadi, Phaltrikadi and Phalatrikadi Ghan Vati. The words Ghan Vati, Ghana Vati and Ghana tablet all refer to a tablet made from a concentrated water-extract; Phalatrika refers to the three fruits (Triphala). These variations simply reflect different transliterations of the original Sanskrit and regional Indian names into English and refer to the same preparation.
