Vasaka Powder is the pure milled leaf of Adhatoda vasica, a bitter, cooling churna long kept in Ayurvedic households for easy chest comfort. Sanskrit knows it as Vasa, and as Simhasya, lion's face, for the shape of its white flower. Rasa Tikta and Kashaya, Virya Sheeta, Vipaka Katu: that signature quietens Kapha and Pitta together while lightly raising Vata, hence its classical pairing with honey or ghee.
Ayurvedic Significance
Ayurveda places Vasaka among the Kaphaghna and Pittashamana dravyas acting on the Pranavaha and Rasavaha Srotas. Where Kapha collects, the channels grow heavy and Ama lingers in the upper body; the Tikta rasa scrapes that heaviness away, and the Sheeta virya keeps the scraping gentle rather than heating. Vaidyas describe the leaf as light, dry and clarifying, wherever Prana Vayu is not moving freely through the chest. Being drying, it is given with a snigdha Anupana to protect Vata.
Key Benefits
- Easy Chest Comfort: a household churna traditionally reached for in the season when the chest feels heavy.
- Dual Dosha Pacification: settles Kapha and Pitta at once, which very few single herbs manage.
- Light and Clarifying: the Tikta rasa scrapes accumulated heaviness from the upper channels.
- Throat Ease: classically paired with honey to keep the throat feeling smooth and comfortable.

Additional Information
Vasaka appears as Vasa, Adathoda or Adhatoda, and in Sanskrit as Simhasya and Atarusha, all one plant differently transliterated. Its bitterness is pronounced, so a spoon of honey is the usual way to take it.
