Nagarjuna Chyavanaprasham is the classical Amalaki-based herbal jam that stands at the centre of Ayurveda's Rasayana tradition. Nagarjuna builds it on fresh Amla with some forty supporting herbs in a base of ghee, sesame oil, honey and sugar, and it is taken daily for natural resilience and comfortable breathing.

Chyavana is the sage whose renewal in later life the classical texts describe, and prasha means a preparation meant to be licked or eaten.

Ayurvedic Significance

Chyavanaprasham is the archetypal Rasayana, and Amalaki, its chief fruit, is tridoshic and especially soothing to Pitta. The formulation is directed to the Pranavaha Srotas, the channels of breath, and to Ojas, the subtle essence behind resilience. Warming Pippali and Pushkaramoola keep Kapha moving in the chest while the Sneha base carries the whole preparation into the deeper dhatus, so it nourishes without leaving Ama.

Traditional Uses & Benefits

  • Natural immunity: the classical Rasayana use, building Ojas and everyday resilience.
  • Easy, comfortable breathing: Amalaki with Pippali and Vasa supports the breath channels.
  • Seasonal steadiness: long taken through changing seasons to keep the body settled.
  • Energy and vitality: a nourishing daily tonic that supports stamina and strength.
  • Voice and complexion: classical texts link it with a clear voice and healthy skin.

These are traditional Ayurvedic uses drawn from classical practice and are not statements of medical effect.

Key Ingredients

  • Amalaki / Dhatriphala (Phyllanthus emblica): the chief fruit, cooling, tridoshic and rich in natural vitamin C.
  • Dashamoola: the classical group of ten roots, counted as one constituent, settling Vata.
  • Pippali (Piper longum) and Pushkaramoola (Inula racemosa): the warming pair for an open chest.
  • Vrishamula (Justicia beddomei): the classical Vasa root for comfortable breathing.
  • Guduchi, Haritaki, Vidari and Jivanti: the sustaining Rasayana group.
  • Draksha, Bala, Punarnava, Musta and Shatavari: the nourishing and balancing supporting herbs.
  • Twak, Ela, Patra, Nagakeshara and Chandana: the aromatic finishing powders.
