Tulsi Powder is pure Ocimum sanctum, the holy basil grown by the door of Indian households and valued for the calm clarity Ayurveda calls Sattva. Tulasi means the incomparable one. The Puranas hold no plant dearer, at once an offering and a dravya of daily use. Its Rasa is Katu and Tikta, its Virya Ushna, its Vipaka Katu: aromatic, light and warming, easing Kapha and Vata.
Ayurvedic Significance
The classical reading of Tulsi turns on its aroma. Volatile, pungent dravyas move upward and outward, opening the Pranavaha Srotas and keeping Kapha from settling as the weather turns cool and damp, which is the basis of its association with clear, comfortable breathing. Alongside this sits its standing as a Sattvic and Medhya herb, favouring composure of mind, which is why it belongs to the morning routine. Its warmth also acts as Deepana, keeping Agni steady.
Key Benefits
- Seasonal Comfort: the aromatic leaf traditionally kept close as the weather turns cool and damp.
- Sattva and Clarity: classed as Sattvic and Medhya, favouring a settled, clear mind.
- Open, Easy Breath: a Pranavaha Srotas herb by classical reckoning, valued for comfortable breathing.
- Agni Steadiness: its pungent warmth acts as Deepana on the digestive fire.

Additional Information
Tulsi, Tulasi, Thulasi and Tulsee are transliterations of one Sanskrit name; in English, holy or sacred basil. The botanical is written Ocimum sanctum and Ocimum tenuiflorum, both valid.
