Kalmegh Powder is certified organic Andrographis paniculata, the Tikta dravya the classics reach for as the seasons turn. Ayurveda knows the herb as Bhunimba, the neem of the earth, and as Kirata, after the hill people who first gathered it; Kalamegha, dark cloud, is its commonest Sanskrit name. Ayurvedic Energetics: Rasa Tikta (bitter), Virya Shita (cooling), Vipaka Katu (pungent). Ruksha and Laghu in Guna, it settles Pitta and Kapha.

Ayurvedic Significance

Ritucharya, the seasonal regimen, is one of the oldest frameworks in Ayurveda: each Ritu brings its own accumulation, and each calls for a different taste. Tikta rasa belongs to the seasons in which Pitta and Kapha gather, and Kalmegh is the bitter the classics reach for there. Deepana and Pachana in action, it kindles Agni and helps the body work through Ama. Practitioners favour it through Varsha and Sharad.

Key Benefits

  • Seasonal Wellness: the Tikta dravya of Varsha and Sharad in the classical Ritucharya.
  • Pitta and Kapha Settling: cooling in Virya, drying and light in Guna.
  • Agni and Ama: Deepana and Pachana, kindling the fire and lightening the residue.
  • Bhunimba, the Earth Neem: a bitterness the classics rank beside neem itself.

Ingredients

Each 10 g of powder contains: Kalamegha, Andrographis paniculata - 10 g.

Pure, Organically grown, Unprocessed, Dried powdered herb packed in air-tight zip locked Kraft pouch to maintain aroma and freshness.

Suggested Use

Take ¼ teaspoon, and no more than ½, stirred into a little honey twice daily before meals. Kalmegh is among the most pronounced bitters in the range, so the amount stays small and honey is the classical Anupana for a Tikta dravya. Consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for dosage and duration suited to your constitution (Prakriti).

Additional Information

Regional transliterations give Kalmegh, Kalamegha, Kalmegha and Kalamegh for one dravya, whose Sanskrit synonyms are Bhunimba and Kirata. It is a distinct herb from Bhumiamalaki, a Phyllanthus, despite how close the two names sound.
