Chandanaadi Thailam is named for chandana, sandalwood, the herb that leads its long formula, with adi signalling the many others that follow. Lotus stamen, blue lotus, vetiver, licorice and sariva are simmered together with a sandalwood decoction into a sesame base, producing a pale, sweetly fragrant oil. This is the classical cooling massage oil of Kerala, applied over the head and body when the season turns hot or when the system feels overheated.
Ayurvedic Significance
Pitta dosha governs heat and transformation, and Ayurveda answers its excess with cool, sweet and bitter qualities. Chandanaadi Thailam is built almost entirely from herbs of that kind. Sandalwood, usheera and the lotus group are described in the classical texts as sheeta veerya, cooling in potency. Applied to the head and body, the oil has long been used through summer and in hot climates to keep the system comfortable. Its soft fragrance is valued just as much for the steadying effect it has on the mind.

Suggested Use
For external application only. Apply a small quantity at room temperature to the scalp, forehead and body, massaging gently with the palms and fingertips. Leave for thirty to forty-five minutes, then bathe with lukewarm rather than hot water so the cooling quality is not lost. It suits regular use through the warmer months. A qualified Ayurvedic practitioner can advise on what best fits your constitution.
Safety & Certifications
For external use only. Do not take internally. Avoid the eyes, and rinse with clean water should contact occur. Patch test on the inner forearm before first use and keep away from broken or irritated skin. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Manufactured in India in a GMP-certified Ayurvedic facility to the standards of the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Additional Information
This oil also appears as Chandanadi Taila, Chandanadi Thailam, Chandanaadi Tailam or Chandanadi Thaila. These are simply different transliterations of one Sanskrit name into English, all naming the same classical formulation. This 200ml bottle is for external application only. Colour and aroma vary naturally between batches because the herbs are cooked into the sesame base, and slight settling or separation is normal.
