Raasnasapthakam Kashayam Tablets offer the classical Rasna Saptakam Kashayam in a convenient tablet form. The name is descriptive: Rasna is the chief herb of the formula, and saptaka means "a group of seven", a reference to the seven principal herbs that make up this well known Vata pacifying decoction. It has long been valued in Ayurveda for the lower back and lower limbs.

Ayurvedic Significance

Classical Ayurveda describes pain radiating through the hips, thighs, flanks and lower back, called Janghashoola, Urushoola, Prushtashoola and Trikashoola, as expressions of aggravated Vata, sometimes carrying Ama, moving through the Asthi (bone) and Mamsa (muscle) dhatus and the channels of the lower body. Rasna Saptakam is a classically Vatahara decoction. Its warming, unctuous herbs, together with Amruta and Punarnava, are chosen to soothe dry, mobile Vata, kindle Agni and support free, comfortable movement of the lower spine and limbs.

Traditional Uses and Benefits

  • Lower back comfort: Traditionally taken to support the lumbar and sacral region where Vata tends to gather.
  • Hip and thigh ease: Directed at the classical patterns of Janghashoola and Urushoola in the lower limbs.
  • Vata balance: The warming herbs help settle the dryness and irregularity of aggravated Vata.
  • Agni support: Ginger, Eranda and Devadaru help kindle digestion and clear Ama from the joints.

These reflect traditional Ayurvedic uses and are not statements of medical effect.

Key Ingredients

  • Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata / Vanda roxburghii), the chief Vata soothing herb
  • Amruta (Tinospora cordifolia) and Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa)
  • Devadaru (Cedrus deodara) and Aragwadha (Cassia fistula)
  • Trikantaka (Tribulus terrestris) and Eranda (castor root)

Suggested Use

The tablets are traditionally taken as two tablets, once or twice daily before food, or as directed by your physician. The classical Anupana (vehicle) for this decoction is warm water with a pinch of ginger powder, which supports its warming, Vata soothing action. Ayurvedic tradition favours taking it before meals. Please consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for personalised guidance.

Additional Information

This formulation is written in several ways, including Raasnasapthakam, Rasnasaptakam, Rasna Saptak, Rasnasaptaka and Rasna Saptak Kwath. The words Kashayam, Kashaya, Kwath and Kwatham all describe the same thing, a traditional herbal decoction, and the herb Rasna also appears as Raasna. These variations simply reflect different transliterations of the original Sanskrit and regional Indian names into English and refer to the same classical preparation.
