Nagarjuna Agasthya Rasayanam is one of Ayurveda's most enduring herbal jams. Haritaki and the ten Dashamoola roots are decocted with barley and the classical chest herbs, then cooked down with jaggery, ghee, sesame oil and honey into a dark, aromatic leham taken by the spoonful.

Agastya is the sage the formulation is named for, and a rasayana is a preparation that renews: rasa is the first tissue and the essence of nourishment, and ayana is its path through the body.

Ayurvedic Significance

Ayurveda locates persistent chest heaviness in the Pranavaha Srotas, where Kapha accumulates and Vata then moves the wrong way. Agasthya answers on both fronts: the Dashamoola and Pushkaramoola settle Vata and open the chest, Pippali and Chitraka are Deepana and clear Kapha at its source, and the sweet leham base rebuilds Ojas so the season leaves less of a mark.

Traditional Uses & Benefits

  • Clear, comfortable breathing: the classical use, taken where the chest feels heavy or congested.
  • Strength and stamina: a Rasayana for Bala, valued after a run-down season.
  • Healthy appetite: Pippali, Chitraka and Gajapippali kindle Agni and support easy digestion.
  • Seasonal comfort: traditionally taken through the cooler and damper months.
  • Clear nasal passages: the warming, aromatic group is classically directed at the upper airways.

These traditional uses are described in classical Ayurvedic practice and are not statements of medical effect.
