Mahaarasnaadi Kashayam Tablets offer the celebrated Maha Rasnadi Kashayam in a convenient tablet form. The name unites Maha (great), Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata, the chief herb for Vata) and the suffix adi ("and others"), marking it as the "great Rasna formula". It is among the most comprehensive and widely used Vata-pacifying decoctions in classical Ayurveda.

Ayurvedic Significance

Ayurveda understands stiffness, tremor, weakness and pain of the joints, back and nerves as aggravated Vata affecting the Asthi (bone), Majja (nervous tissue) and Mamsa (muscle) dhatus. Maha Rasnadi is a classically Vatahara decoction of great breadth. Led by Rasna, Bala, Eranda and Devadaru, and strengthened by Ashwagandha, Shatavari and Guduchi, it is chosen to soothe dry, mobile Vata, kindle Agni, clear Ama and nourish the neuromuscular tissues. It is regarded as warming, unctuous, Vata-soothing and gently strengthening in nature.

Traditional Uses and Benefits

  • Joint comfort: Traditionally used to support the joints, back and comfortable movement.
  • Nerve and muscle support: Valued for supporting the nerves and muscles where Vata is aggravated.
  • Vata balance: The warming, unctuous herbs help settle dry, mobile Vata.
  • Strength and nourishment: Ashwagandha and Shatavari lend a Balya, nourishing quality.

These reflect traditional Ayurvedic uses and are not statements of medical effect.

Key Ingredients

  • Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata), the foremost Vata herb
  • Bala (Sida cordifolia) and Erandamoola (castor root)
  • Devadaru (Cedrus deodara), Ashwagandha and Shatavari
  • Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Gokshura and Punarnava

Suggested Use

The tablets are traditionally taken as two tablets, once or twice daily before food, or as directed by your physician. The classical Anupana (vehicle) is warm water, and traditionally it is taken with a little ginger, long pepper or a few drops of castor oil to support the Vata-soothing action. Yogaraja Guggulu is often co-prescribed by practitioners. Ayurvedic tradition favours taking it in the early morning and evening. Please consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for personalised guidance.

  • Seek advice: pregnant or breastfeeding women, and anyone with an ongoing health condition or taking regular medication, should seek professional advice before use.
  • Storage: keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of the reach of children.

Additional Information

This formulation is written in several ways, including Mahaarasnaadi, Maharasnadi, Maha Rasnadi and Maharasnaadi Kashayam. The words Kashayam, Kashaya, Kwath and Kwatham all describe a traditional herbal decoction, and Rasna also appears as Raasna. These variations simply reflect different transliterations of the original Sanskrit and regional Indian names into English and refer to the same classical preparation.
