Kaarppaasaastthyaadi Thailam draws its name from karpasa asthi, the cotton seed that leads its formula, with adi marking the herbs that follow. Cotton seed, bala, black gram and horse gram are made into a decoction and cooked with goat’s milk into a sesame base, giving a heavy, deeply warming oil. Kerala practitioners rank it among the strongest of the Vata-pacifying oils. It is used for external massage over the neck, shoulders, back and limbs.
