Guggul Powder (50g) is the sun-dried gum resin of Commiphora mukul, among the most prized substances in the Ayurvedic materia medica. Its energetics are bitter, pungent and astringent in Rasa, heating in Virya, and pungent in Vipaka. This combination pacifies Kapha and Vata while kindling metabolic warmth, and it can mildly elevate Pitta when taken in excess. Traditionally the resin is valued for supporting healthy lipid balance, comfortable joints, and the unobstructed movement of the body's channels.

Ayurvedic Significance

Classical texts place Guggulu among the finest Lekhana (scraping) and Srotoshodhana (channel-clearing) substances. Its heating Virya supports Agni and encourages Ama that has settled in Medas and Asthi Dhatu to be gently mobilised and carried away. Because the resin is Yogavahi, it is said to carry companion herbs deeper into the tissues, which is why so many classical Guggulu formulations exist. Purified Guggulu is also regarded as Rasayana for Mamsa and Asthi Dhatu, supporting the strength and easy movement of joints as the years pass.

Key Benefits

  • Healthy Lipid Balance — Traditionally used to support fat metabolism and lipid levels already within a normal range, in keeping with its Lekhana action on Medas Dhatu.
  • Joint Comfort and Mobility — Supports easy, comfortable movement and helps maintain the resilience of joints and surrounding tissue.
  • Gentle Cleansing — Encourages the natural clearing of Ama from the Srotas, helping the body's own channels stay open and free-flowing.
  • Metabolic Warmth — Kindles Agni and supports a steady metabolism, which classical practice links to healthy weight already within a normal range.
  • Radiant Skin and Healthy Blood — Long used to support clear skin and healthy blood, nourishing the tissues that give the complexion its natural glow.

Additional Information

This resin appears under several transliterations of the same Sanskrit word: Guggul, Guggulu, Gugulu, Guggal and Gulgulu all name the identical substance. English sources call it Indian bdellium or mukul myrrh, while Hindi speakers say Guggal. The botanical name is written both as Commiphora mukul and Commiphora wightii. Whatever the spelling, the material is the same purified gum resin described in the classical texts.
