Yashtimadhu Oil is built on one of the plainest ideas in Ayurvedic pharmacology: Madhura rasa and Sheeta virya, a sweet taste and a cooling potency. That pairing is why licorice root, simmered with Amalaki and cow's milk into certified organic sesame oil, has been kept for skin that runs warm, tight or easily provoked. Applied as a body oil in the evening, it settles rather than stimulates.

Ayurvedic Significance

Rasa and virya are the two properties an Ayurvedic practitioner reads first in any dravya. Madhura rasa builds and soothes; Sheeta virya cools. Together they act on Pitta wherever it has spread into the Rasa dhatu and expressed itself on the surface as heat, redness or a tight, reactive quality. Sesame taila is the classical vehicle for this work: it is itself slightly warming, which keeps a cooling formula from becoming too heavy, and its Sukshma quality lets the Snehana reach the deeper Srotas during Abhyanga.

Key Benefits

  • Cooling Skin Comfort: the Sheeta virya of the sweet root is the classical choice for skin that feels warm or over reactive.
  • Sweet, Settling Character: Madhura rasa is the taste Ayurveda associates with building and calming rather than provoking.
  • Kindness to Sensitive Skin: a short, simple three ingredient formula with nothing added for scent or colour.
  • Pitta Balance Through the Warm Months: suited to summer, when Pitta naturally accumulates and the skin shows it first.
  • Evening Snehana: absorbs cleanly, so oiling before the evening bath fits easily into a nightly wind down.

Ingredients

Each 100 ml of certified organic Sesame oil is processed with Cow's milk (Kshira), Yastimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra) root, Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) fruit pericarp.

100% Certified Organic Herbally Infused Oil. Carefully packaged in opaque, light-protective bottles to reduce light exposure and help preserve product quality. All certified organic Gopala Herbs are sourced from jungle farms in South India, located in the biodiverse Western Ghats where plants naturally develop higher concentrations of active constituents. Herbs are ethically harvested using traditional harvesting techniques at peak maturity, helping ensure maximum potency, nutrition and energetic integrity.

Suggested Use

Warm the oil gently and rub it over the body 10 to 15 minutes before bathing, then wash off with mild soap. Massage it into dry areas and leave overnight if you wish. Consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for guidance suited to your constitution.

Additional Information

The same Sanskrit name reaches English through more than one transliteration. Yashtimadhu here, Yashtimadhuka and Yastimadhuka elsewhere in this range, all from yashti and madhu. Sanskrit texts also name the root Madhuyashtika and Klitaka.

A fitting companion is Sheetali pranayama, the cooling breath, practised for a few minutes after the oil goes on.
