Trikatu Tablets take their name from two Sanskrit words: tri, meaning three, and katu, meaning pungent. The three pungents are dry ginger, black pepper and long pepper, combined in equal parts as Ayurveda has done for centuries. Warming, sharp and direct in its action. Each 500mg tablet is uncoated and binder-free, pressed from the herb powders themselves. This is the formulation Ayurvedic tradition turns to first when digestion feels sluggish and Kapha sits heavy.

Ayurvedic Significance

Classical texts treat Trikatu as the archetypal Deepana-Pachana pairing: Deepana kindles Agni, the digestive fire, while Pachana works on Ama, the sticky residue left behind when digestion runs cold. Its virya is Ushna, decidedly heating, which is why it lightens Kapha and reduces excess Meda Dhatu. Vaidyas also value Trikatu as a Yogavahi, a carrier. Used as Bhavana in countless classical preparations, it helps other herbs travel deeper into the Srotas rather than sitting undigested.

Key Benefits

  • Kindles Agni — the pungent trio warms a cool digestive fire, which Ayurveda considers the root of comfortable digestion and steady assimilation of nutrients.
  • Supports the Natural Clearing of Ama — Pachana action helps the body break down and move along the residue that gathers when Agni has been weak.
  • Balances Kapha — heating and drying by nature, Trikatu counters the heaviness, dampness and sluggishness that accumulate when Kapha rises.
  • Encourages Healthy Metabolism — traditionally used within a broader regimen for healthy weight support and the balanced handling of Meda Dhatu.
  • Carries Other Formulations Deeper — as a Yogavahi, Trikatu is classically paired with other preparations to help their qualities reach the tissues more fully.

Ingredients

Each 500mg tablet contains — an equal-part blend of Shunthi, Maricha and Pippali, the three pungents of the classical Trikatu formulation.

Herb Name (Sanskrit)Botanical NamePlant Part Used
Shunthi (Dry Ginger)Zingiber officinaleRhizome
Maricha (Black Pepper)Piper nigrumFruit
Pippali (Long Pepper)Piper longumFruit

Binder-Free Formulation — these tablets are compressed without the use of synthetic binding agents or artificial stabilizers.

Formulated according to the traditional principles of Ayurveda.

All Prana Ayurveda herbs are sourced from select wild regions of India, where they naturally develop higher concentrations of active constituents.

Suggested Use

One tablet twice daily, taken before or with food and washed down with warm water. Trikatu is traditionally given ahead of a meal so that Agni is already kindled when food arrives. Honey makes a classical Anupana for those who prefer it. For dosage and duration suited to your constitution (Prakriti), consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

Safety & Certifications

  • Traditional Preparation — made following classical Ayurvedic methods, with herbs kept away from the high temperatures that dull their qualities.
  • Authentic Sourcing — herbs are identity-checked and gathered at peak growth from their traditional regions.
  • Pure, Uncoated & Binder-Free — nothing but the herbs, compressed into a tablet.
  • Vegan — suitable for vegetarians and vegans, with no animal-derived material.
  • Non-GMO — no genetically modified crop material is used.
  • Sustainably Sourced — wild-harvested using traditional techniques that let the plant populations recover.
  • No Artificial Colours, Flavours or Preservatives.
  • Free from Synthetic Stabilizers — no fillers or processing aids.
  • Free from Added Sugar, Gluten, Soya, Corn and Peanuts.
  • A Warming Blend — Trikatu is markedly heating (Ushna), so Pitta constitutions may prefer a smaller serving. It is traditionally used in courses rather than continuously.
  • Pregnancy and Nursing — speak with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before use.
  • Storage — keep tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and out of reach of children.
  • Manufactured in WHO GMP-certified facilities, every Prana Ayurveda formulation honors classical Ayurvedic wisdom while meeting modern quality and safety standards.

Additional Information

Trikatu is also written Trikatuka or Tryushana in older texts, all naming the same three-pungent combination. Shunthi appears as Sunthi or Sonth, Maricha as Marich, and Pippali as Pippli or Peepal. These are simply different transliterations from Sanskrit and regional languages. The name itself describes the formulation: three pungent components, nothing else added.
