Pushyaanuga Choornam is one of the classics' most honoured women's formulas, a broad company of astringent, steadying herbs including Lodhra, Patha, Ambashthaki, Mocharasa, Jambu and Amra seed, with cooling supports. It is traditionally taken to steady heavy or draining flow, to balance excess discharge of the classical types, and to tone the tissues of the reproductive tract; the same astringent action also settles a loose gut. The name honours the Pushya star, under which tradition gathered its herbs.
Ayurvedic Significance
The classics devote Pushyanuga to Pradara, the lower channels running loose, hot or heavy, assembling many astringents and coolants so that whatever the pattern, some part of the formula answers it. It is traditionally taken with rice water, the classical vehicle for the Artavavaha Srotas, the channels of the monthly cycle.
Traditional Uses and Benefits
- Flow steadiness: traditionally taken to steady heavy, draining monthly flow.
- Discharge balance: the classical answer to excess discharge of several types.
- Tissue tone: valued for firming and toning the reproductive tissues.
- Gut steadiness: the astringents also settle a loose, unsettled gut.
- Cooling comfort: settles the Pitta heat of the lower channels.
These reflect traditional Ayurvedic uses and are not statements of medical effect.
