Vrikshamla Powder is pure Garcinia indica fruit, dried and milled into the deep red, sharply sour churna Indian cooks call kokam. Vriksha means tree and amla means sour, so the name says plainly what it is: the sour one that grows on a tree, distinct from Amalaki. Rasa Amla, Virya Ushna, Vipaka Amla, settling Vata and Kapha and gently raising Pitta.
Ayurvedic Significance
Ama, in Ayurveda, is the sticky residue left when Agni has not finished its work, and Vrikshamla belongs to the Pachana group of dravyas that help the body deal with it. Amla rasa is described as rousing the secretions of the Annavaha Srotas, while the Ushna virya carries warmth into a digestion grown slow and cold. Vaidyas value it as at once a food and a dravya, so it suits a long, daily routine, provided Pitta is watched.
Key Benefits
- Strong Digestive Fire: a classical Pachana fruit traditionally used to keep Agni steady rather than sluggish.
- Gentle Detox: supports the body in clearing the Ama that a slow digestion leaves behind.
- Healthy Metabolism: the sour, warming nature is traditionally called on when things feel heavy after eating.
- Vata and Kapha Settling: warmth for Vata and lightness for Kapha, from a single fruit.
