Mahamasha Thailam is one of Ayurveda's most powerful nourishing oils for the nervous system. The name comes from Maha (great) and Masha (black gram, Vigna mungo), its chief ingredient, a strongly Vata-pacifying and nourishing pulse. Ayurvedic Significance

Weakness, tremor, stiffness and wasting of the nerves and muscles are understood in Ayurveda as deeply aggravated Vata affecting the Majja (nervous tissue), Mamsa (muscle) and Asthi (bone) dhatus. Mahamasha is among the most Brimhana (nourishing) and Vata-pacifying of the classical oils. Masha, the Dashamoola roots, Ashwagandha and Bala nourish and strengthen the tissues, the warming spices and salts penetrate and mobilise, and the sesame oil and milk base carries these qualities deep into the body. It is regarded as warming, richly nourishing and profoundly Vata-soothing in nature.
