Jatyadi Keram is one of Ayurveda's most respected external skin oils, offered here in a 200ml bottle. The name comes from its chief herb, Jati (jasmine, traditionally interpreted in this formula), with the suffix adi meaning "and others", while Keram is the Malayalam word for a medicated oil. It is a comprehensive herbal oil long used in Kerala Ayurveda for the skin, applied externally.

Ayurvedic Significance

In Ayurveda, slow-healing skin, cracks and irritated areas are understood as disturbance of the Rakta (blood) and Mamsa (muscle) dhatus with aggravated Pitta and Kapha in the skin. Jatyadi is a classically Ropana (repair-supporting), Raktaprasadana (blood-clarifying) and Shodhana (cleansing) oil. Bitter and cooling herbs such as Neem, Turmeric, Daruharidra and Manjishta cleanse and soothe, Madhuka and Lodhra support the tissues, and the sesame oil base carries these qualities into the skin. It is regarded as cooling, cleansing and skin-repairing in nature.

Traditional Uses and Benefits

  • Skin repair support: Traditionally applied to support the natural repair of minor wounds and irritated skin.
  • Cracked skin: Valued for cracked heels, dry cracks and rough patches.
  • Cleansing action: Neem and turmeric provide a cooling, cleansing quality for the skin.
  • Skin comfort: Supports comfort in irritated or inflamed areas of the skin.

These reflect traditional Ayurvedic uses and are not statements of medical effect.

Key Ingredients

  • Jati and Nimba (Neem), cleansing and soothing to the skin
  • Haridra (turmeric) and Daruharidra (Berberis aristata)
  • Manjishta (Rubia cordifolia) and Madhuka (licorice)
  • Sesame oil base with a small quantity of purified Tuttha (copper)

Suggested Use

For external use only. Traditionally, a clean cotton swab dipped in the oil is applied gently over the affected area, or the oil is applied thinly and left in place, two or three times a day, or as advised. Clean and dry the area before application. As this is a therapeutic skin oil, it is best used under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner, especially for persistent or broken skin.

This oil is written in several ways, including Jaathyaadi, Jatyadi, Jaatyaadi and Jathyadi. The words Keram, Thailam, Tailam, Taila, Tel and Tail all refer to a medicated oil. These variations simply reflect different transliterations of the original Sanskrit, Malayalam and other regional Indian names into English and refer to the same classical preparation.
