Eranda Taila is pure cold-pressed castor oil, and Eranda is simply the Sanskrit name Ayurveda gives the castor plant. Thick, heavy and slow to spread, it is the most grounding of the single oils, which is why the classical texts place it first among Vata-pacifying dravyas. Used externally, a small amount worked into the soles, joints, hair or nails conditions deeply and leaves the skin comfortably soft.
Ayurvedic Significance
Ayurveda classes Eranda as Guru and Snigdha, heavy and unctuous, with an Ushna or warming potency, the exact set of qualities that answers the cold, light, dry nature of Vata. The texts also name it as an Anulomana dravya, one that helps things move in their proper direction, and it is among the most frequently cited plants in the whole materia medica. In external practice it belongs to Snehana, and Padabhyanga, the evening foot massage, is where most households meet it.
Key Benefits
- Deeply grounding Vata oil: heavy, warm and unctuous, the classical counterweight to dryness, lightness and restlessness.
- Padabhyanga at bedtime: the traditional evening foot massage, where castor oil has been the household choice for generations.
- Rich conditioning for hair and scalp: massaged in before washing, it leaves the scalp comfortable and the hair soft and glossy.
- Nails, lashes and brows: a single drop conditions cuticles and fine hair where lighter oils simply run off.
- Cold-pressed and hexane-free: pressed without heat or solvent from certified organic seed, so nothing is added and nothing stripped out.
Ingredients
100% pure hexane-free castor oil, cold-pressed from the seeds of the certified organic castor plant (Ricinus communis).
100% Certified Organic Herbally Infused Oil. Carefully packaged in opaque, light-protective bottles to reduce light exposure and help preserve product quality. All certified organic Gopala Herbs are sourced from jungle farms in South India, located in the biodiverse Western Ghats where plants naturally develop higher concentrations of active constituents. Herbs are ethically harvested using traditional harvesting techniques at peak maturity, helping ensure maximum potency, nutrition and energetic integrity.
Suggested Use
Dispense a small amount into the palms, warm it, and massage into the soles, joints, scalp, nails or lashes. Because it is thick, less is better; leave it on overnight or wash out with a mild cleanser. Consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for guidance.
