Dashamoola Ghee is a classical Ghrita in which the ten roots of Dashamoola (dasha, ten; moola, root) are infused into ghee from grass-fed cows. Warming and grounding, the ten roots are Ayurveda's foremost Vata-pacifying group, while ghee acts as yogavahi, carrying their virtue to the Pranavaha srotas that govern the breath.

Dashamoola Ghee is a classical Ghrita in which the ten roots of Dashamoola are slowly infused into ghee by the method of Sneha Kalpana. The name is plain: dasha (ten) and moola (root). Five great roots (Brihat Panchamoola) and five lesser ones (Laghu Panchamoola) together form the classical anti-Vata group: warming, grounding and opening to the channels of breath. Ghee carries their virtue inward as yogavahi. The result supports easy breathing and a settled Vata.
Ayurvedic Significance
The Pranavaha srotas carry the breath, and the texts hold that their disturbance arises where Vata is aggravated and Kapha obstructs. Dashamoola is the classical answer to precisely this pairing: warming and mildly bitter, it pacifies Vata without unduly provoking Pitta, and its opening quality moves Kapha out of the channels. Prana Vayu governs inhalation and Udana Vayu exhalation and speech; both are seated in the chest, and both are steadied here. Ghee is the supreme snehana substance, and the classical logic is exact: Vata is dry, cold and mobile, so the oleation of ghee opposes it at its root while acting as yogavahi for the roots.
Key Benefits
- Respiratory comfort: the ten roots are classically associated with the Pranavaha srotas, supporting open channels and easy breathing.
- Vata pacification: warm, grounding and unctuous, this Ghrita opposes the dry, light, mobile qualities of aggravated Vata.
- Deep oleation: snehana with ghee reaches the deeper dhatus, nourishing tissues that dryness has depleted.
- Steadies Prana and Udana Vayu: both sub-doshas seated in the chest are supported, aiding calm, even breath.
- Prepared by Sneha Kalpana: the classical slow-infusion method renders the roots' virtue lipid-soluble and readily absorbed.

All Prana Ayurveda herbs are sourced from select wild regions of India, where they naturally develop higher concentrations of active constituents.
Suggested Use
One teaspoon twice daily. Warm water is the usual Anupana here, and a little taken afterwards helps the ghee move through the channels. Early morning on an empty stomach and again before the evening meal suits most constitutions; the tradition favours it in the cold, dry seasons when Vata naturally rises. It pairs well with Dashamoola Taila used externally for abhyanga. Consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for personalised guidance.

Additional Information
You may see this listed as Dashamoola Ghrita, Dashamula Ghritam, Dashmool Ghrit or Dasamoola Ghrta; each is the same classical preparation, rendered differently from the Sanskrit. Ghrita, Ghritam and Ghrta all mean clarified butter, while Dashamoola, Dashamula and Dashmool all mean the ten roots. Ghee sets firm in cool weather and softens in warmth; both states are normal. The colour deepens naturally with the root decoction.
