Kottakkal Nimbamritasavam is a naturally fermented Ayurvedic infusion led by two of the most respected bitter herbs in the tradition: Nimba, the neem tree, and Amrita, better known as Guduchi. The name carries its own meaning. Nimba names the first herb, Amrita translates as the nectar of immortality, and asavam denotes a liquid matured by slow fermentation of a cold infusion. Together they are turned to for clear skin, clean channels and unhurried internal cleansing.
Ayurvedic Significance
Classical texts group this Asavam with the Rakta-prasadana formulations, those that clarify the blood and tend the skin from within. Nimba is intensely Tikta and cooling, the archetypal Pitta pacifier, while Amrita is prized as a Rasayana that supports Ojas without aggravating heat. Manjishtha and Nisa work on Rakta Dhatu, and the pungent group led by Maricha and Nagara keeps Agni bright so that Ama does not accumulate in the Srotas. The result is a formula that cleanses while it nourishes.
Key Benefits
- Supports healthy, clear-looking skin — Nimba and Manjistha are the classical pairing for a calm, even complexion tended from the inside.
- Promotes blood wellness — bitter and cooling herbs support Rakta Shodhana, the traditional idea of well-clarified blood.
- Encourages gentle internal cleansing — Amrita, Patola and Vidanga help the body move accumulated Ama out of the channels at its own pace.
- Helps balance Pitta and Vata — cooling bitters temper excess heat while warming aromatics keep circulation and digestion steady.
- Supports comfortable joints and tissues — Guggulu and Suradaru have long been used where the body seeks ease of movement.
Ingredients
The formulation draws on twenty-nine botanicals in equal measure, 0.054 g of each: Nimba (Azadirachta indica), Amrita (Tinospora cordifolia), Vrisha (Justicia beddomei), Patola (Trichosanthes cucumerina), Nidigdhika (Solanum virginianum), Patha (Cyclea peltata), Vidanga (Embelia ribes), Suradaru (Cedrus deodara), Gajopakulya (Scindapsus officinalis), Nagara (Zingiber officinale), Nisa (Curcuma longa), Misi (Anethum graveolens), Chavya (Piper mullesua), Kushtha (Saussurea costus), Tejovati (Celastrus paniculatus), Maricha (Piper nigrum), Dipyaka (Trachyspermum ammi), Vatsaka (Holarrhena pubescens), Agni (Plumbago zeylanica), Rohini (Neopicrorhiza scrophulariiflora), Arushkara (Semecarpus anacardium), Vacha (Acorus calamus), Kanamula (Piper longum, wild var.), Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia), Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum), Visha (Aconitum ferox), Yavani (Cuminum cyminum), Guggulu (Commiphora mukul) and Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa).
Suggested Use
Adults: 15 to 30 ml with an equal quantity of water after food, twice daily. As a naturally fermented Asavam, it is generally taken after meals in accordance with traditional Ayurvedic practice. The bitterness is best met with plain warm water rather than a sweet drink. For dosage and duration suited to your constitution (Prakriti), consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.
