Kottakkal Nimbadi Kashayam is a classical bitter decoction headed by Nimba (Azadirachta indica), the neem tree, with Amrita, Nisa and the three fruits of Triphala close behind. It is traditionally taken to support clear, comfortable skin from the inside and to encourage the body to clear what it no longer needs. Nimba is the Sanskrit name of neem, and the suffix adi marks the herbs that follow it, so the title simply announces the formula that begins with neem.

Ayurvedic Significance

In classical terms this is a Tikta Rasa preparation working on Rakta and Twak. The bitter principle of Nimba is regarded as Rakta-shodhana, helping keep the blood tissue clean, while Amrita supports Ojas and steadies Pitta. Nisa and Patola carry a Lekhana quality that scrapes accumulated Ama from the srotas. Triphala looks after Apana Vata and easy elimination, since Ayurveda links skin clarity with an unhurried bowel. Sunthi and Nidigdhika keep Agni active so the bitters do not chill digestion.

Key Benefits

  • Healthy, Clear Skin: Neem is the classical skin herb, traditionally taken to support an even, comfortable complexion.
  • Gentle Internal Cleansing: The bitter and astringent herbs support the body in clearing metabolic residue from the channels.
  • Rakta Purity: Nimba with Amrita is the time-honoured pairing for keeping the blood tissue clean and well nourished.
  • Comfort at the Skin Surface: Nisa and Patola are traditionally valued where the skin feels irritated, warm or congested.
  • Pitta Balance: Cooling bitters settle the sharp, hot qualities of aggravated Pitta that Ayurveda associates with skin unrest.

Ingredients

Each serving is prepared from equal measures of ten classical herbs: Nimba (Azadirachta indica) 1.852 g, Amrita (Tinospora cordifolia) 1.852 g, Sunthi (Zingiber officinale) 1.852 g, Nisa (Curcuma longa) 1.852 g, Vasa (Justicia beddomei) 1.852 g, Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) 1.852 g, Amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica) 1.852 g, Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) 1.852 g, Patola (Trichosanthes cucumerina) 1.852 g and Nidigdhika (Solanum virginianum) 1.852 g. The bark and leaf of Nimba lead the blend, Haritaki, Amalaki and Vibhitaki together form Triphala, and the remainder contribute root, rhizome, leaf and whole-plant portions as specified in the classical text.

Suggested Use

Adults may take 10 to 15 ml twice daily. As a Kashayam it is taken with an equal measure of warm water before food, the Anupana traditionally paired with decoctions. Its taste is frankly bitter, and many follow it with a sip of plain warm water. For dosage and duration suited to your constitution (Prakriti), consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

Safety & Certifications

  • GMP-Certified Manufacture: Prepared by Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal in a GMP-certified facility.
  • Classical Method: Made by the traditional Kashayam process laid down in the Ayurvedic texts.
  • Authentic Sourcing: Herbs are gathered from trusted growing regions and botanically identified before use.
  • AYUSH Standards: Operations follow strict AYUSH guidelines for hygiene, machinery and batch tracking.
  • Purity Testing: Every ingredient is thoroughly tested for purity and identity before acceptance.
  • Thoughtful Use: If you are pregnant, nursing or managing an ongoing health condition, seek guidance from a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before starting. The strongly bitter, cooling character is well suited to Pitta and Kapha; a predominantly Vata constitution may prefer a smaller serving on practitioner advice.
  • Storage: Keep tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Additional Information

This formulation is written in English as Nimbadi Kashayam, Nimbadi Kashaya, Nimbadi Kwatha, Nimbadi Kwatham and Nimbadi Kadha. The lead herb appears as Nimba, Nimb or Neem, and Nisa is often written Nisha or Haridra. Such variations are only different transliterations of the same Sanskrit words into the Roman alphabet, and the spelling changes from one classical text or regional tradition to another.
