Shilajit Rasayana

Sanskrit: Shilajita, meaning "Rock Like"
Shilajit  is one of the wonder medicines of Ayurveda, used for many conditions of weakness and debility. It is not an herb but a kind of natural mineral pitch from the Himalayas and carries the healing power of these great mountains. There are several varieties of the substance, of which the black color has the main therapeutic properties. It can be expensive but does not require large dosages.

Shilajit possesses great curative powers and is considered capable of treating many diseases, particularly those of the aging process. It is an important rejuvenative and tonic particularly for Kapha, Vata, and the kidneys, as in the case of people who have long suffered from diabetes and asthma. It can be taken for general health maintenance and is good for those who do much mental work or practice yoga. The Ayurvedic jelly Chyavanprash contains Shilajit as one of its main ingredients. It acts as a catalytic agents for promoting the action of other tonic agents.
